Cruise Destinations in The Caribbean That Will Make You Fall in Love with Cruising

Below is her take and firsthand experiences on the most beautiful cruise destinations in the Caribbean.

Best cruise destinations I’ve personally experienced

I’ve taken a few Carnival cruises throughout the Caribbean, visiting destinations including the Dominican Republic (Amber Cove), The Bahamas (Nassau and Half Moon Cay), and St. Thomas, just to name a few.

What makes Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic a favorite cruise destination stop

What makes Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic a favorite cruise destination stop

Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic was one of my favorite stops! The resort-style port’s layout was so beautiful. It included the swim-up bar in the middle of the pool, and their hospitality was incredible.

Every destination offered something different, but what we love most is experiencing each island’s unique culture and creating memories together.

Onboard vs. Shore Cruise experience in the Caribbean

One of the best things about cruising is that the vacation starts the moment you step on the ship, literally!

I love the comedy shows, themed parties, entertainment, and having so many dining options available throughout the day. And I have to mention that being able to grab some pizza in the middle of the night is everything lol. These trips are the only time I don’t have to prep any meals, and I give myself permission to eat all the frozen ice cream yogurt that I want!

And one of the best parts also is that for anyone who’s not able to or doesn’t want to leave the ship, there’s still plenty to do. We can relax, swim, watch shows, enjoy great food, participate in any of the events that are happening on board, or simply take in the ocean views.

One moment I’ll never forget was ziplining on the top deck and seeing nothing but ocean in every direction. It was beautiful, but I’ll admit I was just a little nervous! I kept those feelings to myself because I wanted the children to stay excited and relaxed, too.

One unexpected moment on the cruise through the Dominican Republic (Amber Cove), the Bahamas (Nassau and Half Moon Cay), and St. Thomas

Some unexpected moments are always the ones that show how quickly cruising creates a sense of community…. It’s almost as if everyone knows each other. There are complete strangers who become familiar faces throughout the trip. A lot of engagement happens between dancing on the Lido Deck, celebrating our loved ones’ birthdays, shopping in the mini stores onboard, or just small chat as the sun sets. It’s not always just about the destination, but the lovely people we meet along our way!

Memorable Cruise Destinations in Latin America

Memorable Cruise Destinations in Latin America

Chris Christensen, travel blogger at Amateur Travel, had two memorable cruise locations this last year, and both were off the beaten path, as it were.

Cruise in The Peruvian Amazon

I did a cruise with G Adventures on a small boat in the Amazon, which was much easier to do than I thought it would be. I was an exploration of the wildlife in the area, as I expected, but also a peek into the lives of the people in the area who live with a river that changes its height by about 45 feet a year and floods vast areas annually.

Cruises in the Chilean Patagonia

This is like a cruise to Antarctica with penguins and glaciers, but with no other cruise ships, no shopping, no onboard casino, or napkin folding. Each day you climb into a zodiac to explore some other part of this amazing landscape.

Spectacular Island Cruise Destinations For Wildlife and Nature Lovers Worth Booking

Galapagos Summer Cruise Wildlife Tips

Evelyn Duran from Ecuador & Galapagos Insiders recommends Isabela, Santa Cruz, Fernandina, North Seymour, and Española

Galapagos offers great value cruising during the summer months of June-August. This time of year is the height of wildlife activity, with seabirds nesting and marine animals plentiful.

Isabela, Santa Cruz, Fernandina, North Seymour, and Española are must-sees if you are looking for a good overall cruise. Penguins and flightless cormorants are a sure thing on these islands, as well as marine iguanas and the largest colony of waved albatrosses found mating and nesting on Española. Blue-footed boobies can be found nesting on most of these islands during this time period, and sea lions are pup-sitting babies.

Other pluses are seeing large numbers of birds either mating or feeding their young, as well as viewing migrating humpback whales offshore. Temperatures cool down during this time, allowing for more nutrients in the water, which means better visibility when snorkeling. (You will still need a wetsuit, though.)

If you plan on doing any snorkeling, you will need to rent gear. Most of the live-aboard ships have this included in your fare.

This time of year is ideal for photographers and hardcore wildlife watchers. If you don’t mind a little chill and rougher waters, you will see more wildlife during this time period.

Book your trip 8-12 months in advance and be prepared to spend 20-30% more than you would during the shoulder season of April/May and September/October. Demand is high during these months, and cruise ships know it.

Alaska Inside Passage Summer Cruise Recommendation

Alaska Inside Passage Summer Cruise Recommendation

Micah Balingit from Cruise Direct Recommends Alaska Cruises.

Her vote for the best summer cruise destinations goes to Alaska, with a highlight of an Inside Passage itinerary that involves exploring Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, and Glacier Bay National Park.

There are indeed some summer vacations that focus on beaches and city sightseeing, but Alaska is that destination that offers something unique to expert cruisers, and that is the unique chance that is afforded to both cruisers and every traveler to experience the beauty of nature while immersing in the cruise moments.

There is also that element of the wildlife that calls attention to cruising in Alaska. Standing on deck while beholding the sea offers a glimpse of humpback whales breaching beside the ship. While this is the main element that draws some cruisers to consider Alaska, watching a glacier calve into the sea is indeed an added value, and of course, spotting bears along a remote shoreline and bald eagles circling overhead is a non-small part of the experience.

The beauty of cruising in Alaska is that the above things to do are not what you plan for, but they just happen and stay with you.
Summer’s extended daylight hours also mean you will have more time for memorable moments like these.
Alaska is the best destination for every type of traveler, from nature lovers, photographers, sea adventure seekers, and, of course, for families.

It is often regarded as a great destination for those who value a trip rather than a resort or beach vacation.
Because the summer season is short, it is advisable to book early to secure a balcony cabin and offshore excursions.
