Ultimate Guide to African Scheduled Tours and Private Safari, featuring the Best East African Scheduled Tours and Private Safari Options. Explore expertly crafted itineraries, flexible group departures, and tailor-made private safaris across iconic destinations with comfort and unforgettable wildlife experiences.
Travelers booking a trip to Africa usually have to decide whether they will travel through private tour itineraries or simply look for an available scheduled departing tour. A fixed departure safari or tour you need must be the one fitting your budget, and your work ย schedule.
If you’ve been told that in August, the leaves have dropped, making it the best season for an African wildlife safari, this may be a good point to start. ย Indeed, August is one of the months of the summer season that allows a smooth safari, and is indeed the best time to see wildlife. ย However, it is also the high season, which means safari operators may have less availability for your inquiry if you havenโt planned this before.
How about traveling outside the “tourist” season for fewer crowds and a more personal and affordable flight experience? ย This means you are flexible and lean into the advice of the safari curator.
I have spoken to different tour operators who were kind enough to share the common tour inquiries they receive, particularly from travelers interested in exploring the Great Lakes Regionโ Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.
The goal is to allow visitors to inquire about what fellow travelers have inquired about and, most importantly, how you can, in some cases, request tailor-made tour itineraries or look for the scheduled tours that match your travel preferences and work availability.
3-Day Tourist Visa and Itinerary

Sometimes, you find yourself going back and forth through the planning schedule a few times, because ย you tried to pack too many things to do in too few days, unfortunately.
But in the end, you must decide to limit the time you spend in a particular destination by focusing on what matters the most for you. ย If you plan to cover as many East African countries as possible in a four to five-day schedule, then you need to identify your must-see things in each of the destinations on your itinerary.
When would you need to travel in Burundi for just three days? If you are traveling to Rwanda at the end of this month or any time soon, and you are thinking of adding a small detour to Burundi, then you may like a 3-day tour.

What are travelers curious about on a trip to Burundi? ย If you want everything to fit in a 72-hour schedule, but are not sure if adding an extra day and maybe seeing Kibira National Park may work, then you need a 4-day tour itinerary. However, you can still do it within 3 days if you are arriving in the morning and departing late evening.
However, most travelers are often confused about the visa. You donโt need to read somewhere that Burundi issues a 3-day visa on arrival at the airport. While you still have the option to pre-apply for your visa in your country of residence, you are entitled to a 1-month visa on arrival without any pre-arrangements, no matter which nationality you hold. ย The only requirement is to have a reason to travel to Burundi, which of course you already have:)
Common Questions and Inquiries about Traveling to Burundi

1) I am interested in a one-day trip from Kigali to Burundi (the Drum Sanctuary of Gishora, Gitega).
Could you please provide the following details: availability and departing times, price per person for a private or group tour? It would be great to specify whatโs included in the services (transportation, guide, meals, entrance fees, etc.), recommended departure and return times.
2) I want to take this half-day tour to Gishora Drum Sanctuary on Sep 28, pickup at Bujumbura, and end at Bujumbura Airport in the afternoon(the flight time 14:40). Is the time ok, and how much is it ?
3) During my visit to Rwanda in December, I want to visit Burundi for this 7-day itinerary. Is this itinerary going every day for a solo traveler as well?
4) I booked my flights as follows: Arrival in Bujumbura at 15:05 with Rwandair WB482; departure from Bujumbura on the third day at 16:55 with Ethiopian Airlines ET810. Please let me know if this schedule fits the 3-day tour ย schedule.
5) I am definitely interested in reserving a tour for just me next August. ย I will need to get a flight from Nairobi to Bujumbura and try to get there in the early part of the day. Can you arrange for someone to get me at the airport and take me to the Hotel Cub du Lac?
I will need to see about tickets. There seems to be only one flight a day from Nairobi to Bujumbura. ย Will I need a Visa for Burundi? Do you ever help arrange flights?
I will have just finished a big tour of East Africa, Kenya, Uganda, DR Congo, Rwanda, and Tanzania. ย I wanted to include Burundi, as then I will have visited every country in Southern Africa (except Malawi). ย
After Burundi, I am trying to fly to Addis Ababa to start a 10-day tour of Ethiopia, so I only see one flight a day, and only on 4 days of the week. I donโt mind if I can include transport to and from the airport and a nice lake view room at the Hotel Club du Lac.
Group Traveling to Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi: East African Scheduled Tours and Private Safari Options

Some common inquiries about the Gorilla trekking experience usually revolve around not a single country, but also a three-country adventure. The reason is simple. Flying all the way from New York, or any other city, to Rwanda, and leaving behind Uganda and Burundi, doesn’t sound like a cool thing:). Within 7-10 days, you could experience the best of each of the three countries.
If you are looking for tours to Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi for two or even 4 people, and are happy to join a group, you have two options.
You either inquire about a private tour itinerary based on your best things to do, aka bucket list; Or you adjust your travel dates to available scheduled departing tours. You will possibly love an itinerary that doesn’t include one of the things you value. Be sure to inquire if there is a gorilla side trip that can be done before/after the scheduled trip starts for a few days. The key here is to be open to suggestions.
Common Inquiries about Traveling to Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi on a Single itinerary

1) What dates are available for the Uganda/Rwanda/Burundi tour? Is it possible to add a chimpanzee tracking experience to the 7-day adventure before the group travel starts?
2) Could you propose an itinerary for me for 7 days? ย I am interested mainly in visiting the DRC ย and Burundi. ย I understand that I will need to land in Kigali, but as I was just in Rwanda and Uganda last month (September), ย I would like to focus on DRC and Burundi for this trip. I would prefer to stay in 4 or 5-star accommodation where available.
3) I am looking for tours to Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi for 2 people. We can join a group if possible.
4) I am a solo traveler interested in a 7-day Rwanda and Uganda tour. Do you offer single room accommodations?
How do you plan an adventure when your travel partner cannot explore with you anymore?

The above paragraph details what a multi-day overseas adventure planning involves when dealing with the most traveled people.
In my past years of tour operations, I have had instances where two travel partners take trips together on the same itinerary but don’t have the same expectations for the trip. And that is totally fine.
A travel partner cannot visit remote, physically demanding tour activities and areas, which requires the other partner to convince someone else to go on the Gorilla trekking adventure.
โI will then book this trip with a friend, who may join me for the entire itinerary. My friend and I plan to fly into Nairobi, Kenya. For your information, we completed a 35-day multi-country trip back a few years back, completed in June 2022, a 35-day multi-country trip that took us to Cape Town, Pretoria, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, including an extension to Eswatini and Lesotho, which marked our country visited number 171.โ
And some destinations are afforded more time than others. ย
โHowever, for this East African Safari, we don’t need to spend much time on a beach, although beach relaxation on Zanzibar’s white beach sounds tempting. We don’t need high-end luxury accommodations per se, but a 4 four star accommodations in Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zanzibar would be fine.โ
How does a travel curator handle this kind of request?
To sum up our safari request, Travelers need to be presented with options including a single supplement in every safari itinerary pricing so they can decide whether to stay in a twin room or each in a private room.
One of the tentative travel plans could be:
And finally, we would appreciate it if you could put a gorilla trekking experience in Uganda, and add a cultural trip to Burundi and Rwanda. ย We donโt know where to start, but since we have a year in front of us, feel free to adjust the itinerary order according to your best judgment.โ
Seven-day safari itinerary covering Kenya’s Maasai Mara cultural experiences and wildlife game drives.
For Tanzania, a six to seven-day focused on wildebeest migration experience plus Ngorongora Crater will suffice.
